I was worried about first batch defects so I confirmed from local Microsoft store that this was a new batch before buying (EDIT: Someone in the comments confirmed that my model & lot number matches with the October pre-order units, so it might not be a new batch after all). Much better than detaching the Surface Book screen. I can also instantly flip the direction of the Type Cover (see this cool trick: ). I can also lower the kickstand to 150 degrees and start writing with the pen. I can also lay it flat (portrait mode with Type Cover on the right ride) and start writing with the pen without detaching the keyboard.

With Surface Pro 4, I can just roll the Type Cover on the back side and start writing with pen. I also felt that the 1st generation Surface Book muscle wire lock doesn't work 100% consistently with the fluidity that I expect. I do not want to detach the screen ("Clipboard") of Surface Book every time I need to take notes or draw diagrams.

The Surface Pro 4 fits my use case for "inking" and "ultra portability" better than the Surface Book (I already have ThinkPad X1 Carbon as my other portable laptop). Finally after doing a lot of research and hands-on with both Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 demo units, I took the plunge today and bought Surface Pro 4 i5/8GB/256GB + Type Cover w/Fingerprint Sensor + Surface Dock + Microsoft Complete Warranty from local Microsoft store.
